A team is going to Quito, Ecuador again this year August 2 to August 11, 2011. We will be building a home for a poor family that works in the city dump and at the same time doing ministry work with families, preschool kids, churches, and other ministry efforts. No matter what your interest or skill level, there is a ministry opportunity for you.
Here are Key Dates to consider as you pray about serving with the team this year:
April 15 Application and $300 Deposit are due
July 1 All funding is due
August 2 Leave for Quito
August 11 Return to Omaha
You must have at least 6 months on your current passport with empty pages for new stamps. If you do not have your passport, you should start that process now.
WHERE TO: Quito, Ecuador
WHEN: Leave Omaha on August 2, 2011 and return on August 11, 2011.
TEAM SIZE: 20 to 25 people.
COST: The cost is not final as of yet as the final cost depends on the airfare and size of the team. We would expect the total cost to be about $1200-1300 per person. This would include airfare to and from Quito, and all lodging, meals, and transportation while in Quito. Also included is a Short Term Mission Trip Insurance coverage while in Quito.
WHAT WE WILL BE DOING: Team Omaha – One team with two missions. Team# 1 will focus on building a new home for a family. Team #2 will do various ministry activities such as vacation bible school, activities with kids, visit and activities at a home for the elderly, etc. The teams will come together to finish and furnish the house.
NORMAL DAY: Breakfast at 7 am, devotion at 7:30 am and to the worksite at 8 am. Return about 5pm and dinner together as a team at 6 pm.
LODGING: We will be staying at the ER office/dorms. Each room has a bathroom and sleeps 4 to 6. Kitchen for fixing breakfast and dining area and team area. Washer/dryer on each floor.
WHO WILL WE BE WITH IN QUITO: Extreme Response International folks will be leading us in Quito. They are great folks. For more info see www.extremeresponse.org.
MONEY: Ecuador uses the US dollar. You will only need extra money to pay a $40.85 airport exit fee, shopping, and meals while flying to and from Quito/Omaha.
VACCINATIONS: Tetanus is a must. Hepatitis A is recommended. Malaria is not a problem as we will be at 9300 to 11000 feet altitude.
PASSPORT: Need a current passport with at least 6 months and pages for new stamps. Also two photo copies of your passport. You will keep one copy with you at all times, as your passport will be locked up for safety.
BAGGAGE: WE take lots of stuff with us for ER and the family we are helping build a home so we have used American Airlines as they allow us to take 2 bags each. You will be allowed only part of the bag allocation as we need most of it for team supplies.
WORK ITEMS: work gloves, hat, sun screen.
Application and deposit: $300 deposit is due April 15, 2011 along with a application. All money is due July 1, 2011.
