What we do in Uptown

Uptown is a place where children can learn how to have a meaningful relationship with God and others.  We are located on the 1st floor of the West wing, with check in near the West doors.  Though Uptown is open during all three hours on Sunday morning, your child is only allowed to come for one service hour.  We encourage all families to attend service together!

The kids begin their morning in a small group environment with a fun activity designed to introduce them to the one truth, or bottom line, that we want them to walk away with for that day.

After the intro activity, all of the kids are moved to their large group environment for a time of energetic singing and dramatic storytelling.  We creatively and chronologically teach the Bible so it will come to life for them.  We then encourage the kids and leaders to respond to God in worship and other forms.

Lastly, the kids travel back to their small group classroom where they learn through activities and discussion how the day's bottom line can fit into their everyday lives.

What we teach in Uptown

We teach each Bible story contextualized within "The Big GOD Story"-God's entire redemptive story from Genesis to Revelation and beyond! Each week's story builds chronologically on the week before and leads to next weeks lesson.

We use a curriculum called Tru by David C. Cook.  As we teach the Bible, we desire to be Tru to content and context. We take a historical-literal approach to Bible interpretation; we investigate what Scripture meant to its original audience and draw out the corresponding Biblical truth principal for application.

Additionally, because we propose that he mind learns differently from the soul, our approach to Scripture is not only informational (analytical, linear, mastering the text-for the mind) but also formational (receptive, in-depth, letting the text master you-for the soul).*
